Yesterday I had to make a tough decision.
It was something I really didn’t want to do, but knew that I had to.
Since November last year, I have worked on weekends and some evenings at Apple. It was something I always wanted to try, and was lucky enough to be chosen to be a part of the team.
During my tenure, I met some of the most actualized, self-aware people I’ve had the pleasure to know. Suffice to say that they choose people very well there, and it’s a huge factor in why they are so successful.
Although I loved the time I spent there, and the amazing relationships I built, I always knew my time there was limited.
You see, my life goals were leading me in a different direction. My desire to be a speaker and business person have been part of my DNA for many years. Yet I realized in the past few months, just how much I need to pursue them.
For this reason, I had to let go. I had to say goodbye to something I really enjoyed, in order to do the thing that is my true talent.
I share this because I think at some stage we all have to make a tough decision like this. Whether its a career, location or relationship change, it’s always difficult.
I think that we all have many things that we like to do, that make us feel warm and fuzzy, but ultimately keep us distracted from our true calling.
As my last day at Apple drew nearer, I knew that I would need to let it go. Yesterday was bittersweet, because I knew I had to say goodbye, but was excited for the future ahead.
Letting it go meant my energy and focus can turn to my speaking, writing and business goals. It means I can move forward with a clear, clean focus that will bring me to another level.
My desire to work at Apple was something that was always present in me. Now that I have done it, I am so glad I invested the time. I can move on knowing I did something I always wanted to do. Some things we do in life are for a season. They mold us, and inspire us to greater heights.
Yet, other things are part of who we are, guiding us from the core of who we want to be.
The art of letting go is a subtle, difficult one. You have to give up what is good in your life to become great.
If you listen closely, you know what you need to do.
