Lately, I have been more vocal than usual about my ambitions and plans for the future. I’m not sure why, but I have been openly sharing more in my blogs, videos and a lot on my different social media channels.
Interestingly, this has been met with mixed reactions.
For the most part, people are very encouraging and offer kind words. However, some people have mentioned that maybe it is ‘over-sharing’ to be talking about my plans and goals publicly.
I can understand this reaction.
For some people, they see any expression of ambition as a form of bragging or arrogantly expecting success. There are certainly many examples of this in the world today, and I think there is almost a backlash against anyone who doesn’t stay humble in some respect.
But I also think that being too quiet about what you want to do and be means that the world never knows how to help you.
The fact is, you are never going to achieve great things if you hide all your talents and aren’t willing to go after something great.
Very often when I share on my blog, I am noting down thoughts and experiences that have impacted me, that I hope can also help others. But at the same time, they are written as a kind of delineation point for me. Once I put something ‘out there’ it is tough for me to have any excuses not to live my life according to it.
For me, the ability to share my ideas and experiences is a privilege. It grew out of a desire to clarify my thoughts, and I noticed that when I shared them publicly that some people related and gained value from the insights.
However, I can definitely see how writing and speaking about myself all the time can be construed as an ego trip. Like everything revolves around me, and that it’s all some big vanity project. Perhaps there’s some truth to that too, as painful as it might be to admit.
Here’s the way I see it: if you put yourself out there, if you share your goals, dreams, ambitions, talents, creations, and anything that is part of you with the world, you are opening yourself up to criticism.
But at the same time, you are showing courage. You are letting the world know you are a part of it and want to leave your mark in some way.
I always do my best to balance any brashness or hubris with a sense of reality. I don’t expect everything I create to be a hit. Nor do I expect any ambitions I share to magically manifest as a result.
Still, I believe by sharing them I am taking a leap of faith. I am walking my talk, and sharing with the world as I am becoming.
Even if it feels foolish or scary, I challenge you to put it out there. Offer yourself, your creations and your desires so that the world can help you actualize.
